Application Process

Ward/Stake/Branch Tuition Assistance

If your ward/branch/stake would like to help a youth from your organization attend an overnight EFY 2012, please have your ecclesiastical leader contact Amy Salmon at 801-422-3817, ext. 2.

If you wish to help youth in your ward to attend a Stay-at-Home program, please have your ecclesiastical leader contact Sheila Siggard at 801-422-3817, ext. 0.

How do I apply for financial aid?
  • First create a BYU Net ID and password. (If you are applying for more than one child, please create one for each child.) Please do not re-use a BYU Net ID from children/adults. Each BYU Net ID is individual, and if you re-use a BYU Net ID, it can cause problems when you go in to register your child.
  • Remember to log out after completing one application before doing another one. This will ensure that each child’s application is received properly.
  • Click here to see instructions on how to find the financial aid application once you have logged in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who receives financial aid?
  • We wish we could award aid to all who request it. Because of limited funds, we are unable to assist all who apply. Awards are based on an assessment of financial need as well as availability of funds.
  • Financial aid cannot be applied to EFY Stay-at-Home programs.
As an applicant, what information will I need to supply?
  • Your child’s name, address, phone information, and e-mail address(es)
    • Please also be sure that when you create a BYU Net ID, that it is under the child’s name and his or her date of birth. Putting in any parent information will make the computer think the child is ineligible to attend EFY or receive financial aid.
  • Your bishop’s/branch president’s name, correct home address, and phone number (home and business/cell phone if applicable) so we can contact him for insight into your personal situation.
  • Family information, such as family income level and dependants living in the home. (If your family has dependants outside the home, you may mention them in the comments portion, but the first number should only represent dependants currently at home.)
  • You also have an opportunity to express any special circumstances that will help the committee make an award decision. Please be sure to fill out this section so the committee can have a better understanding of your situation.
How long will it take before I know whether I received financial aid?

We will start awarding on January 3, 2012. E-mail notifications will start to be sent after this date. You will be notified by e-mail when a decision has been made. If you are denied financial aid, you may be notified prior to January 3, 2012. All notifications are made once the entire application process is complete.

Tips for Applying for Financial Aid
  • Be sure to give the bishop’s current address. If your bishop should change before you hear regarding financial aid, be sure to call our office so we can write to the new bishop.
  • If you have not heard from us within four to six weeks after applying, please call our office to find out your application status.
  • Please notify your bishop that a letter will be coming to him from the EFY Office and ask him to fax or mail it back to us as soon as possible.
  • We DO NOT accept e-mailed letters, nor do we e-mail or fax letters to bishops. We have so many applicants, and we want to keep this as confidential as possible; mailing a letter to the bishop at his home helps us ensure that confidentiality.
  • We suggest that you call four to six weeks after applying to see whether we have heard from your bishop. When you register, be sure to use the same log-in name that you used to apply for financial aid. This will ensure that your award, if granted, will be in your account and that you will only have to pay the balance.
  • If you register first and later learn that you have received financial aid, you will need to call our office so we can apply that funding to the session for which you have registered. The credit card used to pay EFY tuition will automatically be credited approximately two to three weeks after your award notification. If you cancel the card after paying for EFY and find that you are awarded tuition, please contact our office so we can send the refund in a timely manner.
  • If you later find that you are unable to attend, or if financial circumstances change, please contact our office AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can apply this award to another deserving youth.
  • Remember that financial aid applies ONLY to Overnight EFY programs—NOT Stay-at-Home programs. There are no exceptions.
  • Financial aid is only a PARTIAL scholarship. This is so we can assist as many youth as possible.
  • The circumstances of the applicant determine how much will be awarded. We cannot say how much is typically given as each applicant’s situation is unique.
  • If there is more than one child in the family applying and both are awarded, they generally receive the same amount (i.e., $150 each). That being said, just because one child is awarded does not guarantee that the other child will be awarded as well. A scholarship depends upon the unique situation of the applicant and not always the family as a whole.
  • An applicant or his/her parent may contact our office to understand the decision if desired.
