As a student at Brigham Young University, you are bound by the Honor Code to conduct your life ethically and honorably. Additionally, for your own happiness and well–being, we hope that you will avoid any behavior which could be considered dishonest. For the purposes of the Testing Center, we consider the following to be academically dishonest:
Consistent with the expectations of the University Honor Code, individuals caught engaging in any of the behaviors described above will be referred to the Honor Code office and to their instructor for appropriate disciplinary action.
Final examinations will be given at the times shown in the schedule. Examinations are not given early. The examination periods are firmly scheduled parts of the semester; you must not make plans that interfere with these important academic activities. If illness or other uncontrollable circumstances prevent you from taking an examination at the scheduled time, you are responsible to inform the class instructor as soon as possible. In such a circumstance, your instructor may choose to give the grade of "Incomplete" to you provided you have been attending class and that you are not failing the course. An "Incomplete Contract" must be prepared and signed by both you and the instructor and submitted to the BYU Salt Lake Center.
Final exams for BYU Salt Lake Center classes are typically scheduled at the same time the class met during the semester. Should a conflict arise between the schedules of a day class final exam on campus and a BYU Salt Lake Center exam, priority rests with the day class exam. It is the responsibility of the student to make the conflict known to the BYU Salt Lake Center instructor so an alternative time can be arranged.
For uncontrollable circumstances which warrant consideration for taking an exam at a time other than the scheduled time, a request form is available in the library. Both instructor and student must sign this form and provide a valid reason for requesting the exception.
Before you come to take your test, make sure you have the following:
We are aware of the increasing number of students using PDA’s. Since these devices are capable of storing almost any type of data, you cannot use your PDA unless your teacher has classified your test as open book. If the test you are taking is not open book, you are not allowed to use your PDA for any reason, not even as a claculator. If you need a calculator for your test, we will be happy to provide one for you.
Before entering the testing room, you must turn off your cell phone, Mp3 player, pager, or any other electronic device you may have with you. Any use of a cell phone or other electronic device is strictly prohibited. If your cell phone rings while you are taking a test, or if you are found to be using any unauthorized electronic device for any purpose, your cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated. If you need to leave your cell phone or pager on for emergency purposes, it must be left with the Testing Center personnel.
