Who can attend?
Males and females between the ages of 14 and 18 (during the camp) are eligible to attend. We are sorry, but if you are 13, you will need to wait one more year. College students are not eligible.How many attend the camp?
Approximately 36 students will SummerFestival Honors Jazz Camp. Enrollment in each instrument program varies. See Performance Standards for further details.What are the prices?

What kind of musical background do I need?
Participants should have completed substantial musical training and have sufficient technique development.

Faculty from the BYU School of Music are the primary instructors. Guest instructors are invited from the community.Why is it held in June each year? Can't you change the dates?
In order for our outstanding School of Music faculty to teach, the program is held prior to SummerFestival (which is held during spring term at finals week at BYU). Many of the faculty are assigned to summer tours at the beginning of summer term and would not be available if we changed the dates.What do we do each day?
Your daily schedule may include instruction in swing, blues, jazz, Latin, funk, and fusion styles from renowned jazz faculty while attending master classes, jazz theory, jazz history, improvisation, and big band and combo rehearsals.What happens on Saturday and Sunday?
Honors Jazz Camp concludes with final concerts (jazz) on Saturday evening in the Harris Fine Arts Center. Participants will attend church services with their counselor on Sunday and then attend the SummerFestival fireside on Sunday night.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the concerts on Saturday.Do we have activities in the evenings?
Yes. Activities may include concerts along with activities, jam sessions, and a final concert. All participants are invited to attend the evening activities.When is check-in?
Check-in is Thursday morning from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Location TBA.When is checkout?
Participants must check out of their rooms by 9:00 a.m. on the Saturday, June 21, 2008 (which is the end of SummerFestival). Luggage may be stored at Heritage Halls Central Building until the concerts have concluded.What if I don't arrive until after orientation?

Should I stay in campus housing or commute?
This is an individual decision. If you stay in campus housing, you will have a counselor (one counselor for every ten participants). Counselors will coordinate devotionals (scripture, song, and prayer) each evening. Campus participants are not allowed to leave the residence halls after the head count. Commuters need to be picked up by an adult after the evening rehearsals/activities.If I don't stay in housing, where can I eat?
Camp participants eat in the Cannon Center cafeteria. Those staying in housing are given a meal card for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Those who are commuting are given a meal card for lunches only. You may also buy meals on a day-to-day basis in the cafeteria. Meals range from $6.50 to $8.50.How much does it cost for campus housing? What does it cover?
The cost is $150. It covers double-occupancy accommodations in campus residence halls from Thursday evening through Saturday morning, with bed and bath linen provided. Meals are provided from Thursday lunch through the next Sunday( June 15) lunch. Dinner on Sunday is part of the Young Musicians' SummerFestival package.When do I check in and out of housing?

Campus housing is in Heritage Halls. Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis until the spaces are filled. Early registration is encouraged as spaces are limited. We can confirm availability of housing instantaneously if you register by phone or Web.What are the housing arrangements?
Residence halls are double occupancy with shared bathrooms down the hall.How can I be matched up with my preferred roommate?
To request a specific roommate, you must provide a roommate's name when registering. The roommate must also give us your name with his or her registration. If you register and choose a roommate but that person doesn't register for housing by the time it is filled or doesn't enroll, you will be paired up with another participant attending the program.Can I have a roommate who is attending another youth program?
No, you must room with someone attending the same program.Is early housing available?
If transportation scheduling requires you to arrive a day early, you may do so. You are responsible to pay a special housing fee that covers the cost of lodging and supervision until the program officially begins. Meals are available in the all-you-can-eat cafeterias for a moderate price. Is there shuttle service between the Salt Lake City International Airport and BYU?
BYU does not coordinate any shuttle services between the Salt Lake City Airport and Provo. There are companies that offer shuttle services between the airport and Provo, but you will need to contact them directly. You can call Express Shuttle at 1-800-397-0773. It is up to each participant to find his or her own transportation to and from BYU. What is the BYU Honor Code?

Admission and Standards: BYU Continuing Education programs do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, or ethnic or national origin. Participants attending the camp are required to uphold guidelines as represented in the Honor Code. They must maintain the standards of Brigham Young University (i.e., high standards of honor, integrity, language, and morality; abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and harmful drugs; and modesty in dress). Shorts and skirts worn on campus must be knee length; no sleeveless shirts, bare midriffs, or tank tops are permitted.
Dress standards are strictly enforced. Participants found in violation of the Honor Code are subject to immediate dismissal without a refund. Parents are responsible for picking up a participant who has been dismissed and paying any costs incurred for transportation.
We are committed to providing a learning atmosphere that reasonably accommodates persons with disabilities who are otherwise qualified. Prior to registration, applicants with disabilities are invited to discuss the program content and available facilities with the program director.What should I wear?
Participants may wear pants or shorts to class. The concerts, recitals, and dances require Sunday dress (shirt, tie, and slacks for young men-no levis; dresses and skirts for young women). All clothing must adhere to the dress standards listed in the BYU Honor Code.What will the weather be like?
Weather could be rather warm during the program. Average high temperature in June is 85-90 degrees F; average low is 65 degrees F. Come prepared for changeable weather and varying indoor room temperatures.Where can I find more information on the BYU School of Music?
