Trombone

Enrollment is limited to 16 trombonists

Trombonists will participate in two or more of the following: concert band, orchestra, jazz, big band, jazz combos and chamber ensembles. Daily trombone sectionals and master classes will be scheduled in order to review selected ensembles' music and performance skills.

Assignments will be based on auditions. Auditions will be 10 minutes in length and will include scales, a prepared solo, and sight-reading. You should prepare the following for auditions: a solo that demonstrates technical facility contrasted with a lyric melody, all major scales, and sight-reading.

Players should be able to play eighth-note scales (quarter = 144) in keys up to five flats (see ranges below) and be able to sight-read in 2/3, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, and 9/8.
