(2) Autism - Putting the Pieces Together

Description: Autism is a communication and social disorder that can affect individuals in a myriad of ways. There is no known cure for Autism, and the cause is also unknown. The purpose of this sharing station is to acquaint others with Autism, and suggest ways individuals can interact with an Autistic child or adult. Perhaps you know someone with Autism in your ward or neighborhood. Maybe your child has an Autistic peer in their class at church or school. Autism can be confusing because it demonstrates itself in so many ways. The numbers of children being diagnosed with Autism are increasing. (1 in 150 children nationwide; 1 in 133 in Utah). Perhaps the most revealing number is that one in 79 boys in Utah is being diagnosed with autism. It is becoming more and more important to understand this developmental disorder.
