Title: Care-giving is Not Carefree
Exhibitor(s): Marianne Kartchner
Description: My mother, who had Alzheimer’s disease, lived with us for seven years as her mental state deteriorated. Although I was happy to serve my mother in this way I could not have done it without the help of my family. After starting a daycare center for people who needed supervised care I realized that some people should think twice about becoming caregivers. If you decide that care giving is not for you and your family, there are many other options. Start by using the Checklist, The Ideal Caregiver, on the next page, to see if you should undertake this responsibility (from The Comfort Of Home, An illustrated Step-by-Step Guide for Caregivers, Maria M. Meyer with Paula Derr, RN)
