2008 Midwinter Symposium on Books for Young Readers

Credit Requirements

To receive BYU credit for this program, students should be in good standing with both Brigham Young University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (if a member). All students are expected to uphold the university standards while in class.

½ Credit hour of EL ED/SC ED 514R (Pass/Fail)

  1. Prior to the symposium, read five books of your choosing written by the guest authors/illustrator appearing on the program (at least one by each author/illustrator). Prepare a bibliographic citation, brief summary, and an evaluation of and/or response to each book (samples attached).

  2. Attend all symposium sessions on February 2, 2008 and keep an attendance log in a notebook or small binder. Record your responses to each presentation and activity in your log as well as information on the books you discover in the Bookstore Annex and during other sessions. The log may be informal and should reflect honest responses. Complete your log y writing a one to two page summary of your experiences during the symposium.

  3. Submit all assignments together wither at the conclusion of the symposium or to the address below. If you choose to mail in your assignments, they must be received no later than February 15, 2008.

An optional credit meeting will be held at 8:15 a.m. on February 2, 2008 to answer any questions you may have concerning these credit requirements. The meeting will be held in the ballroom on the third floor of the Provo City Library.
