David Morgan received his BA from Brigham Young University in 1985 and an MFA from the National Theatre Conservatory in 1990. He has been on the full-time faculty with the BYU Theatre and Media Arts Department for 13 years. In 1998, Professor Morgan was selected from nearly a thousand professors nominated by graduating seniors to receive the Student Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has taught all levels of acting courses, speech and diction, vocal production, and improvisational acting. He is also an expert in dance, yoga, and stage combat.
He has directed many productions in Utah, Colorado, and Alaska, such as Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Of Mice and Men, Into the Woods, A Man for All Seasons, and Caucasian Chalk Circle, and he has been seen on stages in Utah, Minnesota, California, and Colorado, including Sundance, the National Theatre Conservatory, and Walt Disney. He has also performed in the Kids’ Stuff Theatre Troupe and Tele-productions.
As a student of Tad Z. Danielewski and other outstanding trainers, he has shared his expertise by conducting workshops and presentations at the State University of New York, Pottsdam College, and the American Association for the Educators' National Conference in Boston. He was honored as a direct regional semifinalist in the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival.
Professor Morgan has completed nine seasons as artistic director/manager of Gold Rush Productions. His acting credits include the Denver Center Theatre Company, the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts, Common Weal Theatre Company, Santa Barbara Shakespeare Festival, and the Actors Repertory Theatre Ensemble.
