Theatre Camp

BYU Theatre Workshop

Join us this summer, June 21–July 3, 2015

BYU Theatre Workshop will be one of the greatest opportunities you will ever have to immerse yourself in the theatre experience in the great atmosphere only BYU can offer. BYU Theatre Workshop is for beginning, intermediate, and seasoned high school drama students. If you love to learn and want to build your theatre talents through classroom and hands-on instruction in master classes, specialty workshops, and rehearsals, this camp is for YOU. You will work hard, learn a lot, and make new friends with similar dreams, goals, and standards.

Come to BYU this summer and join in the fun that is the BYU Theatre Workshop. This year you can participate in one of three areas: musical theatre, tech and design, or sketch comedy.

Perform onstage with the MUSICAL THEATRE track. Put your heart into a character and make him or her come alive for the audience. Focus on improving your acting skills, stage presence, singing, and movement as we multiple cast and rehearse for your final performance of "Once on This Island."

TECH and DESIGN is for those behind the scenes making all the magic happen. Sign up and get a Backstage All Access Pass with hands on opportunities to design lights, sound, sets, props, costumes and makeup. See your creations come alive on stage, run the sound and lighting, and call the show as the stage manager during the final performance.

With SKETCH COMEDY, you create a character in a moment and bring comedy and laughter to your audience. Classes will focus on sketch comedy writing, performance, analyzing comedy performance, directing and blocking, and dialects and stage combat. Instructors are members of BYU’s own Divine Comedy sketch comedy troupe, with special master classes taught by cast members from Studio C! Share your talents with family and friends in your final performance.

It’s an intense two weeks with our talented instructors and theatre professionals gaining new skills and improving on your current ones. You will participate in daily classes to help you gain confidence in your specific track, along with some combined master classes with topics of interest for everyone. Devotionals, firesides, dances, and counselor-led evening activities bring everyone together for a fun end to the day.

Comments from our 2014 BYU Theatre Camp participants:

Theatre Camp has been the most spiritual, fun, inspiring, fulfilling experience of my life.

LOVED THIS WORKSHOP!! I was scared I was gonna be alone, but everyone made me feel included, which made me so happy.

I grew spiritually as an actor in ways that I never imagined!

Connecting theatre to the gospel in the way we did was truly magical.

I learned how to use the Spirit in my acting and how to connect to my character.
