STARTALK Arabic Language Camp for High School Students

Arabic Mosque

Arabic Language Camp July 23-August 17

Welcome to the study of Arabic at Brigham Young University. Arabic is the language of worship for over a billion Muslims throughout the world and the language of daily communication in the Arabic World, which consists, more or less, of 22 nations of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as of the Arab Diaspora. Because it is used in so many different places, Arabic includes a number of regional as well as stylistic varieties.

The objective of the 2007 BYU Summer Arabic Camp is to assist 12 high school students to acquire at least Intermediate High level proficiency in using both Written and Spoken Arabic through an intensive and inspirational Arabic language program, comparable to the BYU Arabic 101 semester-long 4.0 credit course. Students will be exposed to both Written and Spoken Arabic.

Tuition: $500.00

Includes 4.0 Brigham Young University Arabic 101 credit hours, housing and food, program supplies, and program activities.

Scholarships available upon applicant request.

  • It's growing: National and state governments support Arabic language programs.

Arabic Language Camp July 23-August 17

The 2007 BYU Summer Arabic Camp will begin on Monday, 23 July 2007. Parents and guardians are invited, but not required, to attend a light breakfast and reception that morning. Due to the necessity of consistency and focus, we ask that parents who remain in the Provo area after dropping off their students or who permanently live close by do not plan to see their students until the conclusion of the program.

2007 BYU Summer Arabic Camp participants will stay in Brigham Young University’s unique Foreign Language Housing Complex. During the regular academic school year, Foreign Language Housing residents agree to speak only the language designated for their living unit and eat one group meal together daily. Program participants will take this lofty goal to even greater heights. To see the facilities, visit: http://www.byu.edu/housing/oncampushousing/rooms.html#flsr
