Arabic and Chinese Language Camps
June 23–July 16
July 21–August 13
We are excited to announce that BYU will once again host the STARTALK Arabic and Chinese summer language camps. These unique camps allow students to participate in a hands on cultural learning experience. Although these language camps have been especially designed for high school students, they also function as professional development opportunities for prospective and current K-16 Arabic and Chinese teachers.
We hope to accommodate more students this year by offering 2 sessions for each language throughout the summer. The first session for each summer language camp begins on June 23 to July 16, 2008 and the second session starts on July 21 to August 13, 2008.
Students will live in the BYU Foreign Language Student Residence and daily experience various aspects of Arab or Chinese culture in an appropriate blend of English and Arabic or Chinese through films, games, cooking lessons, visits to mosques and restaurants¿This experience of acquiring facility in using Arabic or Chinese to successfully accomplish real world tasks is designed to whet students¿ appetites for additional study, leading to advanced levels of proficiency. Most of the costs will be covered for students accepted into the program.
