Building a Better Classroom: Tools for Effective Elementary Classroom Management

This class is designed to help teachers use proven tools of effective elementary classroom management to build a positive classroom structure that maximizes student learning even with a diverse student population. The class will also focus on developing effective relationships with parents. Handouts, demonstrations, and real-life applications and examples along with idea sharing will be included in the class instruction. The following topics will also be addressed:

  • Using social cues
  • Developing reward systems and motivational techniques
  • Establishing rules and procedures
  • Communicating with parents
  • Recruiting parent volunteers
  • Implementing Love and Logic techniques

Grading Criteria: Grades will be determined based on participation, attendance, completion of readings, and in-class assignments. In-class assignments will include group projects, practical applications of course materials, role playing, implementation and integration of motivation strategies in a classroom setting.
