The rules have changed. What used to work doesn’t anymore. In the old economy, having a degree was your ticket to getting a job. Now that entry-level job may be taken up by someone with a degree, plus experience, and quite possibly advanced skill training. The question is how will you compete?
In the old economy companies could get by with inefficiencies and still be competitive. There was enough market to share. Not anymore. Global competition, shrinking budgets, and wary customers are driving companies to operate with a higher level of competency than ever before.
What is the difference between yesterday’s economy and the today’s economy?
Jobs are a premium. They demand broader skills, better preparation. Good products, good luck and “gut feel” may have worked well in the past, but the uncertain future requires a different skill set.
In today’s economy, how do you add additional skill training to an already crowded educational program?
Today employers are looking for a diploma AND job-relevant skills. Certification shows that you have both. Your goal is to get a job that will launch a successful career. The trick now is to position yourself so that you are considered for that first job. Additional training and certification can do that.
Is there certification training available even though I have limited experience?
The answer is BYU’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) training. It is designed specifically for someone with less experience. The CAPM credential is a proven standard of excellence, and our trainers have experience in over 40 countries connecting this theory with effective, results-oriented practice.
The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) used extensively in project management was developed to manage the complexities of designing and building the Polaris missile system—the first submarine-launched nuclear ballistic missile.
According to Project Management Institute (PMI), a recent national salary survey showed that certified project managers earn on average $14K more than non-certified colleagues.
