Pre-Arrival Information

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

The Class Descriptions list the items that are recommended for each class (e.g., scores, organ shoes, hymnbook, etc.). Please review these recommendations before leaving home. Hymnbooks are also handy to have for the Hymn Sing on Wednesday night. Needs for residence halls occupants are listed under Lodging and Meals.

WORKSHOP LOCATION

All workshop classes will be held in the Harris Fine Arts Center (HFAC) on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo, Utah. Provo is located 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, the capital city of Utah. Provo is situated 4,560 feet above sea level. The campus sits at the western base of the Wasatch Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountain Range.

IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION

Free parking will be available in Lot 49 kitty-corner to the Marriott Center. Workshop participants will not be able to park in the Law School, Museum of Art, or Conference Center lots. Shuttle vans will be available to take you to the Harris Fine Arts Center. Please allow extra time for parking and waiting for the shuttle. The van driver’s cell phone number is (801) 360-1210. It is a 12-15-minute walk from the Conference Center parking lot to the workshop classrooms, if you prefer to go on foot. If you are residing in campus residence halls, you are encouraged to park in the “C” lots surrounding the residence halls.

WORKSHOP AND RESIDENCE HALL CHECK-IN

  • Residence Hall Check-in: Monday, August 4
    After 3:00 p.m., Heritage Halls Central Building
    Receive room assignment, key, and other information

  • Workshop Check-in: Tuesday, August 5
    8:00–9:00 a.m., Harris Fine Arts Center main gallery (third floor lobby)
    Receive name badge, information packet, final schedule, etc. A light breakfast will be served.

OPENING SESSION

The opening session of the workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. on August 5 in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center. We highly recommend you come a little early to check in.

DRESS AND GROOMING STANDARDS

While attending the program, workshop participants are required to uphold the standards maintained by BYU students, faculty, and staff, including abstinence from tobacco, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, and harmful drugs. BYU dress and grooming standards emphasize clothing that is modest in fabric, fit, style, and length and hairstyles that are neat and not extreme. Please, no tank tops or sleeveless, strapless, or backless attire. Dresses, skirts, and shorts should be knee length or longer. Jeans are permitted.  Earrings for men are not appropriate. WEATHER

The average daytime temperature in August is 91 degrees (F), with evening and morning lows at 58 degrees (F). Come prepared for changeable weather and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures.
