InterMuse Choral Camp

Does your child love to sing in the school choir?   Come join a group of fine young musicians for a weeklong choral camp at BYU! Develop vocal techniques, music literacy, and musical sensitivity to fine choral literature while combining a sense of teamwork, friendship, and summer fun!

Dates: June 16–20, 2008 (Monday to Friday), 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Place: J. Reuben Clark Law Building, Brigham Young University campus

Open to children ages 9–13 who have completed 4th to 7th grade. Boys must have unchanged voices. All attendees must have been in a Kodály choir for at least a year.

HOW TO REGISTER
There are two easy ways to register:

  2. Call (801) 422-8925 to register by phone with your VISA, Discover, or MasterCard.
  3. Register in person in the lobby of the Harman Continuing Education Building at BYU. We will be closed on May 26 (Memorial Day).

The registration fee of $75 covers tuition and music. Enrollment is limited—please register by June 11, 2008. Walk-on registration will be available June 16 from noon to 1:00 p.m., third-floor lobby of the J. Reuben Clark Law School. A signed waiver form is required for all students.

SCHOLARSHIPS
A limited number of $60 scholarships will be available based on financial need and teacher recommendation. Application forms must be received by May 23, 2008.

Intermuse

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Until June 2, 2008 you can go online and withdraw yourself from the program with no processing fee. After June 2, refund requests must be submitted in writing and a processing of $25 will be charged for each cancellation. Send refund requests to: InterMuse Choral Camp, 352 HCEB, Provo, UT 84602.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
1:00-1:30 p.m.                Warm-up and welcome
1:30-2:30 p.m.                Rehearsal
2:30-3:00 p.m.                Break with activities and snacks
3:00-3:45 p.m.                Rehearsal
3:45-4:00 p.m.                Wrap-up activity

On Friday, the schedule will be slightly modified due to our concert rehearsals. Parents will receive a flyer with details on the first day of class.

CHECK-IN
Check in beginning at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 16, in the lobby on the third floor of the Law School to receive your packet and music. Bring a bottle of water for you!

FINAL PERFORMANCE
A final performance will take place on Friday, June 20, at 7:00 p.m. where the children will perform alongside the BYU InterMuse Academy Choir! Location will be announced at a later date.

PARKING
Short-term parking for parents is available in the visitors’ lot south of the Law School.

DRESS
Most participants prefer to dress casually in slacks (including jeans) and comfortable shoes. The only “dress up” event is the final concert on Friday evening. Choice of clothing is yours, as long as you are within BYU dress standards (clothing must be modest in fabric, fit, style, and length). Shorts, if worn, must be knee length.

CHORAL DIRECTORS
Julianna Barker is a Kodály-certified graduate of the BYU Elementary Music Education program, InterMuse Academy, and Holy Names University Master of Music Education with Kodály Emphasis program.  She teaches K–6 general music at Spring Creek Elementary in the Provo School District, where she directs the Spring Creek Concert Choir. 

Joy Chantry is the K–6 general music teacher at Wasatch Elementary in the Provo School District.  She codirects the Wasatch Concert Choir and the Provo District Youth Singers.  Joy is a Kodály-certified graduate of BYU’s Elementary Music Education program and InterMuse Academy.

Rebecca McLaughlin is a Kodaly-certified graduate of the BYU Elementary Music Education program and InterMuse Academy.  She taught K-6 at Spring Creek Elementary where she directed the Spring Creek Concert Choir.  She currently sings in the Tabernacle Choir.
