REGISTRATION

When can I register?
Registration opens in late January.

What are the prices?
Registration: $285
Food and Housing: $110

Who can attend?
BYU freshmen who are enrolled in fall semester 2008.

How many attend the workshop?
Approximately 100-140 participants. (10-12 students are allowed into each class)

What are your registration deadlines?
The workshop is open until full.

If the class I want is full do you have a waiting list?
We do not keep waiting lists for the classes. We recommend registering for another class.

What if I don't have a credit card to register by Internet/phone?
You can mail in a check with your name, address, phone number, and Social Security number (mandatory to receive credit). When it is received, you will be registered. The only risk with this method is that housing for the program may fill before your form is received.

When will I receive more information?
A receipt will arrive in the mail in 7-10 working days. Please check the receipt for accuracy.

I have a disability-can you accommodate me in the residence halls/program?
We are committed to providing a learning atmosphere that reasonably accommodates persons with disabilities who are otherwise qualified. Prior to registration, applicants with disabilities are invited to discuss the program content and available facilities with the program director. Those with disabilities who want to register should call (801) 422-7692.

When is Late Summer Honors held each year?
The program is held in late August.

Who teaches at Late Summer Honors?
BYU faculty teach the classes.

What do we do each day?
The days are filled with hands-on courses, group research, labs, demonstrations, and field trips.

Do we have activities in the evenings?
Yes. Activities may include a barbecue, fireside and dance, service project, and closing banquet.

When is check-in?
Please see your pre-arrival packet for information on check-in times.

What if I don't arrive until after orientation?
If you arrive after the orientation, please call (801) 422-7692.

HOUSING

May I stay in campus housing?
If you are signed up for on campus housing during the 2008 Fall semester and select the food and housing option on the registration form, then you may check in to housing on Saturday, August 23 after 5:00 p.m.

If I don't stay in housing, where can I eat?
Workshop participants eat in the Cannon Center cafeteria.  Those staying in campus housing are given a meal card for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Those who are commuting are given a meal card for lunches only. Commuters may buy meals on a day-to-day basis in the cafeteria. Meals range from $4.75 to $7.99.

Why can’t I check in before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday night?
Education Week participants use campus housing until Saturday morning. The cleaning crews clean the units on Saturday to prepare them for Fall semester housing.

Where is the housing for Thursday and Friday?
Housing is in Helaman Halls. You will receive your fall semester housing assignment by the BYU Housing Office.

What are the housing arrangements?
Most residence halls are double occupancy with shared bathrooms down the hall.

Is early housing available?
Early housing is not available.

MARKETING

When is information mailed?
Information is posted on the Web site. If you would like to be added to the e-mail listserv, please e-mail: cw352@byu.edu and include your full name and complete e-mail address.

When will I get a brochure?
A postcard is mailed in the spring with the information for freshmen provided by the university. All information is posted on the Web site as it becomes available.

What is your Web address?
http://latesummerhonors.byu.edu  Please note there is no "www." in the web address.

TRAVEL

Can you give me the names and phone numbers of other participants in my session so I can make car-pool arrangements?
Unfortunately, this is confidential information that we are unable to give out.

Is there a shuttle service from the Salt Lake City Airport to BYU?
BYU does not coordinate any shuttle services between Salt Lake City and Provo. There are companies that offer shuttle services between the airport and Provo, but you will need to contact them directly. You can call Express Shuttle at 1-800-397-0773. It is up to each participant to find his or her own transportation to and from BYU. For more information click here.

MISCELLANEOUS

What is the BYU Honor Code?
http://honorcode.byu.edu/ Participants attending the workshop are required to uphold guidelines as represented in the Honor Code. They must maintain the standards of Brigham Young University (i.e., high standards of honor, integrity, language, and morality; abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and harmful drugs; and modesty in dress). Shorts and skirts worn on campus must be knee length; no sleeveless shirts, bare midriffs, or tank tops are permitted.

Dress standards are strictly enforced. Participants found in violation of the Honor Code are subject to immediate dismissal without a refund. Parents are responsible for picking up a participant who has been dismissed and paying any costs incurred for transportation.

What should I wear at Late Summer Honors?
Participants may wear pants or knee-length shorts. The dance requires Sunday dress (shirt, tie, slacks for young men-no levis; dresses and skirts for young women). All clothing must adhere to the dress standards listed in the BYU Honor Code.

What will the weather be like?
Weather could be rather warm during the program. Average high temperature in August is 85 to 90 degrees F; average low is 65 to 70 degrees F. Come prepared for changeable weather and varying indoor room temperatures.
