Tuition:

  • $1799 (high estimate) 3.0 credits of GEOL 102 (letter grade)
  • $1799 (high estimate) Non credit registration

Pay in full at time of registration

Tuition fee includes all instructional sessions, round-trip flight from SLC to Hawaii and from Oahu to Big Island, transportation on islands, food, and lodging. Incidental expenses are in addition to tuition. Additional information on course requirements, release forms, required field supplies, and luggage requirements will be sent after registration is completed.

Grading Criteria for geology credit

  • based on performance in writing and problem solving activities, teamwork and presentations
  • do one presentation during the week (requires some assignments to be done in advance)
  • attendance

Who
Anyone over 18 years old. You do not have to be a geology student or a BYU student. You MUST follow *BYU Honor Code throughout the whole field course (see below).

Admission and Standards
Participants of any race, color, creed, and ethnic or national origin are accepted for admission provided the maintain the university standards while on this BYU program. These include modesty in dress and conduct and abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea, and harmful drugs.

Dress and Grooming Standards

Men
A clean and well-cared-for appearance should be maintained. Hairstyles should be clean and neat, avoiding extreme styles or colors and trimmed above the collar leaving the ear uncovered. Sideburns should not extend below the earlobe or onto the cheek.  If worn, mustaches should be neatly trimmed and may not extend beyond or below the comers of the mouth. Men are expected to be clean-shaven; beards are not acceptable. Earrings and other body piercing are not acceptable. Shoes should be worn in all public areas.

Women
A clean and well-cared-for appearance should be maintained. Clothing is inappropriate when it is sleeveless, strapless, backless, or revealing, has slits above the knee; or is form fitting. Dresses and skirts must be knee length or longer. Hairstyles should be clean and neat, avoiding extreme styles and colors. Excessive ear piercing (more than one per ear) and all other body piercing are not acceptable. Shoes should be worn in all public areas.
