BYU Youth Dancesport 2014–2015

To participate in this program, you must first audition and be cleared by the director.

Sharon Holman
BYU Youth Dancesport Program

Sharon received her BA in dance, and her MA in dance pedagogy from Brigham Young University. She has been on the BYU faculty for 20 years, in the Ballroom Dance Division, and director of the BYU Youth Dancesport Program for the past 12 years. Sharon and her husband Curt are former professional Latin competitors, as well as Professional Theatre Arts, and Cabaret United States finalists. They were invited twice to compete Professional Cabaret in Blackpool, England for the Open British Championships, as well as the Open to the World Professional Cabaret Championships in Slagharen, Holland. She is certified with the ISTD, and a licentiate in both Latin and Ballroom styles. Sharon loves her association with the amazing kids in our youth program and considers it a privilege to work with them!

Open Auditions for 2014-2015

Audition Times:

Youth (10th–12th grade) 7:30 a.m.
Junior (7th–9th grade) 10:00 a.m.
Preteen (4th–6th grade) 12:00 noon
Team classifications are based upon the student’s year in school during the 2014-2015 academic school year.

Audition Dances:

Students should be prepared to dance a syllabus Cha Cha, and Waltz or Foxtrot.
Those auditioning for the Youth category will also participate in a choreographic workshop as part of their audition in the morning, and some may be asked to return later in the day for a call back audition.

Audition Partner

Each participant is responsible to bring their own partner to audition with. Auditions go much better for the participant if they have a partner they have practiced with beforehand and are comfortable dancing with. Only those auditioning for the program need to pre-register.

Audition Attire:

Syllabus attire is required
Girls: black skirt & white top
Boys: black pants, white dress shirt & black tie

*Youth Teams: Starting in January you will also be required to attend 3hr Saturday morning rehearsals. These will be in addition to the Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals.
