CHILDREN’S’ AND TEEN’S’ CREATIVE DANCE PROGRAM 2011-2012

Children’s calendar 2011–2012

DESCRIPTION

Participants in the BYU Children and Teen’s Creative Dance Program will receive training in dance technique, which develops flexibility, coordination, strength, physical awareness, and body control. Students will learn through movement the basics of rhythm, participate in problem solving, create innovative compositions, and develop excellent performance skills.

BYU Dance Camps

DATES

Registration will begin August 8,2011.

Classes begin the week of September 12–16, 2011, and culminate the week of May 7–12, 2012. Information regarding holidays and performances will be distributed by teachers shortly after classes begin.

AGES

Grades preschool through 12 (3–18 years).

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

The Creative Dance Program includes an optional performance opportunity for original choreography in the November and February “DanceWorks” performances. Class groups will be featured in a May performance “Sharing Showcase.” The Young DanceMakers (those in company classes that meet two or more hours per week) will perform in “An Evening of Dance,” also in May.

PARENTS’ VISITING WEEKS

There are three designated weeks during the year during which parents are encouraged to observe their child’s class. These include the first week of class, the last week before Christmas break, and the last week before the concert. Parents should not observe class at any other time in order to allow the teacher and students to work without interruption.

REGISTRATION

Registration will begin on August 8, 2011 at 8:00 am (MDT).

Registration can be done online or over the phone with VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card, or American Express by calling (801) 422-8925.
Please specify the age group and day and time of the class for which you are registering. Registrations can be done in person at 120 Harman Building (HCEB). Checks should be made payable to BYU.

Full tuition is due at the time of registration. (See class schedule for tuition amounts.) Please note that there is a $20 discount on all registrations received prior to September 1, 2011.

All classes are subject to change or cancellation.

Company class enrollment is by invitation only. Students will be evaluated for correct placement during the first month of classes. You will be contacted about any recommended adjustments and, upon approval, will be notified if there is any change in cost. No late fee will apply for such transfers.

  • CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

    All cancellations and refund requests must be submitted in writing or email (dancecamps@byu.edu) to Creative Dance Refunds, 147 HCEB, Provo, UT 84602, or faxed to (801) 422-0730. A full refund less a $25 handling fee will be granted to all requesting cancellation prior to the child’s first class during the first week (September 13–17). During the first month of class, refunds will be approved on an individual basis. After the first month of class, No refunds will be given. Please plan accordingly.

    2011–2012 Class Schedule

    All classes are held for one hour unless noted otherwise. Age is calculated from the first day of class. This schedule is subject to change.

    Experienced Teen girls ages 15–18 may schedule a placement class by calling 801-422-6757.

    *Note: A $25 performance fee has been added to the oldest two boys’ classes to cover the costs of participating in the Evening of Dance Concert in the de Jong Concert Hall on the BYU campus.
