Ed Austin: Artistic Director of the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble (1985–present)

Vickie Austin: Coordinator of the BYU Clogging Programs (1986–2007)

2011 Guest Instructors (2012 Instructors TBA):

Scotty Bilz: Scotty has been clogging for most of his life. He first gained attention in the Eastern U.S. theater dancing and directing the “Buckin’ Mules” in Florida. His teaching career began as a teenager as he began working on and teaching routines with the Possum Trot Clogging workshop team and especially with Tandy Barrett. We missed having Scotty our first year at BYU Cougar Clogging Classic but have had him every year since (but one-broken ankle). He is one of the featured National Instructors at most every workshop, National Convention and Camp. He is an accomplished National Champion many times over. Scotty is one of the most creative thinkers in clogging which has been a leading factor in his longevity in a world of “come and gone.”

Jeff Driggs: Jeff began calling square dances in his native West Virginia as a teenager and began clogging in 1982. He has taught workshops in all fifty U.S. states and across Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. He coordinates major performance events for cloggers around the globe and has written a stage show that is in development. Jeff has served as an officer in many national clogging organizations, and is the owner and editor of the Double Toe Times clogging magazine. He has been teaching at the BYU Cougar Clogging Classic for more than 25 years!

Veva Ahlstrom: Growing up with four sisters, Veva learned to dance quickly and competed in her first dance competition at the age of 2. Since then, she’s followed in their dancing footsteps. In 1998 and 2004, she won the Most Valuable Performer Award in Freestyle at Western Nationals. In 1999, 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2010 she won the Most Valuable Performer Award in duet at Western Nationals. In 2003 and 2005, she won the Overall Jr. Olympic Female Freestyle Gold Medal, as well as the 2005 Overall Jr. Olympic Duet Gold Medal. Along with her dancing, she played collegiate basketball at CEU and UVU with a full ride scholarship, taking home CEU’s Women’s Athlete of the Year in 2005. In 2006, she married Craig Ahlstrom and has a sweet baby girl named Millie. She currently enjoys running her own dance studio, Veva’s Fab 5 Studio in Mesa, AZ and dancing with her sisters, better known as the Fab 5.

LaChere Vawdrey: LaChere Vawdrey loves performing, teaching and competing. She performed on the syndicated Hee-Haw Television Show with the Steele Family Cloggers in the late 80’s. She toured with the BYU Folk Dancers in 1996, and served as a choreographer for the 2002 Winter Olympics working with High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega. In 2009 she received the Most Valuable Performer Award in both freestyle and short duet categories at the Western National Championships. In May of 2010 she received Director of the Year for her hard work with LaChere’s Fab Five Studio. Her most prized accomplishment is her rockin’ marriage to Randy, her best duet partner yet! Together, they have 4 beautiful children, Preston, Mallori, Wade and Alexis.

Veva, LaChere and their sisters were finalists with NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Known as the Fab 5, they were the only dance act in 2009 to advance to the show’s finale performance. They enjoyed every minute of the very intense competition and have enjoyed traveling and performing together since the show.

Greg and Maria Tucker: Greg and Maria Tucker are multi-year National Clogging Champions in individuals, duets, and team. They have been Directors of the Year the past 5 years and are members of the Clogging Hall of Fame. They teach at one of the largest clogging studios in the nation — Rocky Mountain Express — and are annual performers at Disneyland and Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. They compete nationally, having won 15 team national championships in the past 6 years and were choreographers and dancers for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies with Kenny Ortega, Doug Jack and JC Cloward. They helped produce the clogging competition in the AAU Junior Olympics for several years, and are the owners and directors of competitions with America On Stage — a national competition circuit that is home to the World’s Largest clogging and dance competition — Nationals at Lagoon. They are the coordinators for the clogging program at BYU and were members of BYU’s International Folk Dance Ensemble from 1994–2000. They have been married 12 years and have 4 children.
