Dance and the Child Internation - USA Conference - Creating Landscapes - August 12-15, 2008

Call for Performances

Important Announcement The deadline for performance applications has been extended to JUNE 1, 2008

The conference schedule allows for two evenings of performances (Wednesday and Thursday) by individuals or groups who are registered for the conference. If you are considering such a performance, keep in mind that daCi USA expects the movement, content, style, and costumes to be age-appropriate, and, further, we hope that the dance content will fit within the overall conference theme of “Creating Landscapes.” Moreover, we hope that the choreography demonstrates an inclusive, process-oriented approach (i.e., children’s thoughts and ideas have been incorporated, thus staying true to daCi’s objectives). To accommodate as many groups as possible, we ask that solos be no more than four minutes and group performances no longer than six.

Acceptance Criteria for Individuals and Groups

  • Age-appropriate movement, content, style, and costumes. The dance content should fit within the overall conference theme of “Creating Landscapes”. Further, we hope that the choreography demonstrates an inclusive, process-oriented approach (i.e., children’s thoughts and ideas have been incorporated, thus staying true to daCi’s objectives).
  • Performances will be a maximum of six minutes in length for group performances and four minutes for solo performances.
  • Costumes must abide by the BYU dress code (available on the Web site).
  • Performers must be registered 2008 gathering participants.
  • Each participant may perform only once.
  • Spacing rehearsals will be during the late afternoon options session. These rehearsals may be limited to 10—15 minutes.
  • Multiple technical cues are limited. You may expect general mood, color of wash (warm or cool), and cue order. The stage does have a crossover.
  • We will try to accommodate all performance request times to the best of our ability. Accepted groups will be notified by May 10 by e-mail. Performances are Wednesday, August 13 and Thursday, August 14 evenings. Afternoon performances will be scheduled if needed.
  • Individuals/groups must complete and return the Concert Registration and Tech/Lighting Form online to msdeniserapp@aol.com by May 1, 2008 (form must be filled out and sent back as an attachment).
  • Groups and individuals are required to submit a DVD of the dance to be performed including costumes that will be worn, as well as a hard copy of the Concert Registration and Tech/Lighting Form by the May 1 deadline. In the event of unforeseen difficulties, scheduling conflicts, or possible illness, performer substitutions may be made for the actual performances, as needed.
