Title:                                         Letters From the Heart

Exhibitor:                                  Bonnie Paulsen

Description:                              Everyone enjoys receiving a hand written note or letter.

Hand written letters are an art form of sorts that we are losing through the use of e-mail, the telephone, etc.  Letters from the heart are words that become precious and treasured.  They are a part of yourself that is imprinted in the heart and soul of the receiver.  Letters become a tangible source of love that can be revisited over and over again when “needed”.  When one takes the time to pen a few lines, both the writer and receiver benefit.  Trials become bearable, sorrow is shared, and a victory seems much sweeter.  It only takes a little planning, organization, time, thought, love, appreciation – and a stamp- to bless the lives of others.

How-To’s:                               Elements of Writing a Letter

Touching Those You Love

Elements of Writing a Letter:

1.      Establish a place in your home where you can sit comfortably to write, away from other distractions, and has space to store all your supplies.

2.      Gather a variety of stationary (e.g. note cards, postcards, printed stationary, various colors of paper and envelopes). When you are ready to write, you can choose just the “right” stationary for the person or occasion.  *Watch for sales, or purchase at specialty shops when traveling.

3.      Put pens in a fun box or container.  Try using a fountain pen.  Ink cartridges come in many fabulous colors.

4.      Purchase a collection of stamps. Thus, letters can be mailed the same day they are written!

5.      Set aside a specific time each day or once a week to sit and write.  If the designated time passes without you writing, that’s alright, just do it the next time your scheduled time comes around.

6.      Keep a Calendar of Birthdays and Special Occasions. Check it often.

7.      Update your address book, including zip codes and keep with your writing materials.

Touching Those You Love:

1.       Carry with you a small notebook to jot down the names of those you feel impressed to write to.  This will help you “remember”.

2.      When a special occasion is approaching, take the time to write a personal note or insert a letter in a printed card.

3.      Write a letter to your children on their birthday. Express your love, hopes and dreams.  Enumerate their strengths and talents.  Communicate heart-felt emotions and appreciation for the influence they have on your life.

4.      Express your understanding of what someone else is going through by sharing your thoughts.

5.      When you write someone to report a simple truth -- you’re thinking of them -- you always touch their heart.

6.      Add to your letter quotations that seem to apply especially to the person you’re writing.

When you offer part of yourself to another person; it is the opportunity to become the Lord’s hands to gently lift and succor in times of need and in times of rejoicing!  May we renew this commitment to share the burdens and the joys of our beloved friends, neighbors and family, with the simple act of writing a “letter from the heart.”
