Title:                                         “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren”

Exhibitor:                                  Marilyn Woolston

Description:                              Sometimes it is necessary for grandparents to become

parents to their grandchildren.  Our role has changed from being a doting grandparent to that of a parent providing structure, discipline, and a safe, loving environment. This change in later life’s direction can bring rich blessings to the grandchild as well as the grandparent.

How To’s:                                Child Raising Tips

Child Raising Tips:

§         Remember children are a heritage of the Lord and they bring blessings at any age.

§         Daily reaffirm your love for these children.

§         Appreciate their heritage by recognizing great deeds and accomplishments of people with similar ethnic backgrounds.

§         Nurture future missionaries by dressing the grandchildren like priesthood holders and writing letters to missionaries serving in the field.

§         Read together – read aloud during scripture study and read good literature at bedtime.

§         Build self-worth through chores, music practice and individual garden plots.

§         Assign age appropriate chores.

§         Take time for fun!  Do not use your “age” as an excuse to limit activities.

§         Grandparents raising young children need to take time for themselves to maintain their own spiritual, mental, and physical health.
