Choosing
Flowers and Colors:
Many brides have no idea what flower they would like to use for their wedding. Sometimes flowers are dictated by your choice of colors or maybe even by the season. However, almost any flower is available by special order through a local wholesale florist. Remember that Costco is a great source for fresh flowers. They have a variety of wonderful blooms. It would be a good idea to talk to the person who orders the flowers to find out what days their flowers come in. That way you will be able to get them fresh!
Colors are totally an individual thing. Blue, purple, pretty much any color you want is now available at most any time of the year. Traditionally, a spring wedding calls or paler, pastel colors. Summer lends itself to anything. Fall makes us think of darker colors and rusts or burnt oranges. Don’t let your color choice be dictated by what seems typical. If you have a very favorite flower or color, you should use it!
Bouquets,
Boutonnieres, & Table Decorations:
Bouquets:
Now that you have made your decision on flowers, use the best blooms for the Bridal bouquet. The Bridal bouquet is the most fun to create, and you really want to enjoy the moment. I always make the bridal bouquet before I do any other flowers for the wedding.
The Bridal bouquet is usually larger than the other wedding party bouquets and is usually made up of flowers representing all other flowers used in the wedding. However, it is fine to be totally different or made up of totally one kind of flower if that is what the bride wants. After all, it is the Bride’s day!
The Bridesmaids’ bouquets can be totally different from the bride, or exactly the same but on a smaller scale. They can be the same flowers but tied differently, something to set them apart from the Bride’s.
Boutonnieres:
The Groom’s boutonniere is usually one single flower taken from the Bride’s bouquet. The other boutonnieres are just a favorite flower from what the Bride has selected, just one single bloom. The new trend is to use some kind of decorative greens for the groomsmen, with no flower, but tied with ribbon.
Table Decorations:
The container can be the most important choice you make. I have always felt that a great container can really make the difference between an ordinary arrangement and a simply fabulous one. Look for unusual containers; maybe something you already have in your possession… something you never think could hold flowers. Look or things such as trophy cups, silver pitchers, or candelabra. My preference is a tall, slender container so that you can talk to the person across the table. Tall containers for flowers make a great visual effect.
Stress
Relievers & Wedding Idea Sources:
Don’t take on too much as the Bride or the mother of the Bride. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends or relatives. Preparation can be fun when friends are taking part. (make sure to write them a Thank You note afterwards!) There are a lot of things you can do the day before, such as: headpieces, boutonnieres, bouquets, even the bride’s bouquet. Just remember to keep the stems in water. Headpieces and boutonnieres can be kept in a plastic bag in the fridge. Tie ribbons on the bouquets on the day of the wedding so they don’t get wet while you keep the stems in water.
Sources:
Bridal magazines on the market today are great resources for ideas and help. My personal favorite is “Martha Stewart’s Weddings.” They come out quarterly and are found in any grocery store. The public library is a great source for wedding books.
The best advise I could give you is ENJOY THE MOMENT and MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!
