Sing, Swing, Sway, and Play-Making Music Together in the Elementary Classroom

Educator and a Student

This is an active participation course for elementary classroom teachers wishing to enrich musical offerings in their classrooms.  The development of secure classroom singing, rhythmic feeling, and music appreciation will be emphasized through age-appropriate musical activities.  The first day will include a developmental overview and an emphasis on K–3 musical experiences.  The second day will include teaching strategies for helping older children get started with successful singing and an emphasis on musical activities for grades 4–6.  This course also features practical suggestions on how to integrate children’s literature and music.  The course culminates with a celebration of African song, dance, and simple percussion.
